The .308 Winchester is a very capable and popular rifle caliber, and it can be used for hunting, self-defense, long-range shooting, and a lot more. If you want to build an AR-pattern rifle chambered in 308, the Enhanced M5E1 complete upper assembly from Aero Precision is an excellent option.

Lightweight Fluted Barrel

To keep your rifle lightweight, this upper assembly comes with a fluted barrel, which is lighter and better at heat dissipation as well. The 18-inch long barrel is made from 416R stainless steel and has a 1:10 rifling pattern, which improves accuracy. The barrel comes equipped with a standard A2 style flash hider, but you can also use the 5/8"-24 thread pitch to mount other muzzle devices.

Gen 2 Enhanced Handguard

The upper assembly comes with a low-profile modern handguard. It has a one-piece design and is made from 6061-T6 Aluminum. The Aero Precision Gen 2 handguard has M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, with a continuous Picatinny top rail for mounting optics. The Gen 2 Enhanced Handguard on this upper assembly is compatible with low-profile gas blocks. So, this upper assembly comes with a low-profile rifle-length gas system.

The receiver itself is made from high-strength aluminum and is very lightweight. It has a port door and forward assist, which are pre-installed, and has a hardcoat anodized finish. The DPMS High Profile barrel aligns perfectly with the Gen 2 handguard and also features M4 feed ramps for better reliability.
